she's gone... she has left the country.

we did have a fabulous last couple of days...

thurs we (sean and i) took the swede out for a fabulous fancy good dinner. the cocktails were to die for, and the food... we ate so much food. anja tried to surprise sean and i with a bottle of sofia coppola champagne. can you believe sofia has a champagne? it also comes in little cans with a retractable straw. we had fun.

fri was the bakinoff and that was just sinful. the menu went as follows (in order of serving):

1. mini bacon sandwiches - greyuere cheese rolls with a piece of bacon, spinach and pickled onions. anja named them GOBS, greyuere, onions, bacon, spinach. (courtesy of scott & deb)

2. shortbread cookies that were baked with bacon fat and bacon bits, and some were served with this cheese spread that was made with REAL wasabi. (courtesy of jane)

3. bacon canoli (courtesy of anja & kasia)-parmesan cheese and bacon shells (fried and rolled into a roll) with mashed potatoes, feta, greek olives and bacon stuffed inside.

4. pimientos de padron (green sweet & hot green peppers, and you can't tell which one you will get)- fried with slivers of garlic, bacon and salt flakes. (courtesy of scott & deb)

5. BLT's with creme fraiche - bacon, lettuce, heirloom tomatoes, creme fraiche, all courtesy of matt.

6. homemade sauerkraut (scott & deb) fried with bacon fat. just like the poles do it.

7. pork belly with lentils drizzled with balsamic vinegar. (scott & deb)

they were all good, but my god the pork belly was to flipping die for. i had 2 servings. and then dessert....

8. flan with bacon bits on top, with a bacon lace cookie.

SO GOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!

and then the cocktails were amazing. strawberry and rhubarb syrup (homemade) in champagne, lavender infused vodka drink... and then a cucumber vodka drink. awesome.

sat i stayed far away from bacon... and went to my first knitting show. wow. i was a bit disappointed. it was really small, and i didn't buy a lot of stuff. i was mostly looking for patterns which i found a few of. bought some yarn, not much. but the geekiest thing is the 2 dvd set i bought called the art of knitting. eeeekkkk!!! i went with carol ann & Bee. it was fun. good girlie time.

sun i worked... poooo.

mon i had tea with anja before work. we talked as if she wasn't really about to get on a plane soon. it was weird. sun i was in the worst mood just anticipating my goodbye with her... she told me she wasn't even going to say goodbye and just walk away, maybe stick her tongue out at me... but we had a nice chat, and i told her i would see her soon.

i wish her all the best. it just sucks to loose a friend like her. the healthiest friendship i have had with someone and now she's far far far away. to top off loosing her yesterday, i found out my dog is dying. mondays are stupid days.

tuesday should be better. i have a date with kat and then one with kim on wed, thurs one of my favorite authors will be here... it will be a good week. just weird to be making less phone calls.

so people have moved, relationships have ended... it is all changing at once, it's weird, but i have to say change seems very good right now. forces me on new adventures. i am looking forward to the rest of the year.
